What is the ‘World’s Best Vineyards’
Each year, William Reed publishes the ‘World's Best Vineyards’ - an impressive list which showcases the world’s best in terms of winery tourism - vineyards and wineries which produce superb wines (of course) but also offer the best vineyard experiences, incorporating incredible vineyard tours and wine tastings, food and wine experiences, beautiful settings and views and accommodation with the ‘wow’ factor.
The ‘top 100’ list spans the best of wine tourism destinations in the world’s top wine producing countries, across 5 continents, featuring incredible architectural design, Michelin starred restaurants, ancient cellars and family-run wineries.
How is the ‘World’s Best Vineyards’ list compiled?
The World’s Best Vineyards ‘Academy’ provides the infrastructure for compiling the list each year, with some 500 wine travel experts voting across geographical regions, rating and ranking their top ‘vineyards’ to visit. Multiple factors are taken into account including the services offered, the facilities, the staff, the ambience - in fact everything which makes the visit a top, world-leading wine travel experience and wine tourism destination.
Who is on the ‘World’s Best Vineyards’ list?
A new list is announced each year, at a gathering of the world’s top wine destinations at a special wine tourism destination, with the location changing each year.
The latest 2024 list took place in early November at Nyetimber Estate in West Sussex, UK. The list is announced at a gathering of the world’s top wine destinations at a special wine tourism destination, with the location changing each year.
This is a prestigious list and the announcement is eagerly awaited each year. Having a ‘World’s Best Vineyard’ award is a huge accolade and each destination on the list benefits from the global publicity that comes with the award.
In 2024, the top 50 list included 28 European vineyards, 12 from South America, three from North America, three from Asia, two from Africa, and two from Australasia. Spain has an impressive 3 vineyards in the top 10 and in fact, the No. 1 rated vineyard in the world is Bodegas De Los Herederos Del Marqués De Riscal, in Rioja.
